Ordering Fabric Online: All The Things We Do To Make It Easy
For some of us ordering fabric online is a weekly occurrence so it is a simple and fun thing to do. For others the idea of ordering fabric without first touching it is seriously daunting and to some, an impossible thing to do.
Here at Lush we understand that it isn't a simple task for everyone and we go above and beyond to make it as easy as possible for you to do. We give you so much information in the form of writing, photos and videos. Here are just some of the things we do to make pressing "Add to Cart" much easier for you:
On every fabric listing we list key information about the fabrics which can really help you determine if they are right for your project, we tell you the composition of the fabric, it's stretch percentages if any and the weight of the fabric in gsm (grams per square metre). These three things are the basic key elements to a fabric that you have to know before purchasing. The more you work with fabric the more this information will be useful to you. If you are new to the fabric world then you will find your sewing pattern will tell you what sort of fabrics work, the weight needed and very importantly the stretch percentages, you can find all of this information on all of our fabric listings.
We also give you some suggestions on the sort of garments that could be made out of these fabrics which can give you an idea of the drape and stretch of each garment.
Each week we create a new video showcasing our new fabrics, subscribe and turn on notifications to our You Tube channel @Lush Fabrics to be notified when a new video is available. We show you the fabrics close up, describe the feel of the fabric and show you its stretch and drape. In these videos we also show you if any of our other fabrics match with this one and tell you which threads match, we link all of these fabrics and threads into the product listing so you can easily find everything you need.

We have also created a few videos showcasing particular fabric bases and showing you examples made from these bases. This is a great way to know if a particular fabric is going to give you the look you are after, here is an example:
We have a page titled "Fabric Base Information" you can find it in our menu running horizontally across the top of the page. This page gives information on most of our fabric bases and is categorised by season.
We have separated our fabrics into "Knit", also known as stretch and "Woven" so you can go straight to the area that you are interested in.
Our social media is full of inspiration. See what the Lush team have made and what our customers have made using our fabrics. Seeing garments and knowing what fabric base has been used to make them give the best indication of what you could use those fabrics for. We release new fabrics on Sundays, in these new releases we have some fabrics that we call Lush Sunday Rewinds, these are fabrics that we already have in stock that we discount for Sunday only. These discounted fabrics are a great way to try out Lush Fabrics if you are on the fence, as they occur weekly there are regular opportunities to see what is available.

If you are new to sewing and still feel a little lost I have two ideas that might help you to get started:
- Make yourself a simple t-shirt. I recommend using a PDF pattern, they are readily available online (just Google PDF sewing pattern to get you started) and generally have excellent instructions. Now to choosing a fabric, I would recommend choosing a Brushed Poly (comes in solids and prints) a DTY (also available in solids and prints) or a Modal, either 200gsm or 250gsm, both work well.
- If you don't want a t-shirt you can go to our You Tube channel @LushFabrics and search Explained, you will see a list of the videos that we have made focusing on particular fabric bases. These videos show examples of garments made from these fabrics and we also tell you which patterns have been used.
