Winter Dresses by Beck Smith

It's been a hot minute since the weather and Covid Restrictions have eased in tandem here in Melbourne, and I found myself craving a change from my wardrobe of the last 18 months: joggers or jeans with tees or jumpers. I needed some dresses that looked presentable and neat, but fulfilled my ongoing need for comfort (and accommodated my Covid padding which is proving very stubborn to shift!).

Enter the T-shirt dress! Easy to wear, comfy and suitable for changeable weather and different occasions depending on the accessories I choose, I decided to add some to my me-made wardrobe.

I chose 3 patterns and 3 fabric bases from Lush. I picked the Greenstyle Valerie dress, the Pattern Emporium Lounge dress and the Love Notions Breckenridge Henley for my patterns, and Splotches in Sand French Terry, Classic Plaid brushed poly and Melody in Black ribbed knit (sold out, but available in Purple, Mint and Coral colourways).

It was my first time trying each of these patterns, so I made my usual adjustments (Full Bust Adjustment if one was not included, Full Bicep Adjustment). Whenever I am trying out a new to me pattern, I select my size based on the size chart, then measure the front bodice at my full bust and the sleeve at the bicep to ensure the fit will be good.  I generally find with knit patterns that if these two places fit fine, the rest of the garment will be good.

I’m really happy with the outcomes and already have each of these on high rotation, especially the Splotches in Sand French Terry, it’s my favourite!
