These bases are great all year round!
Double Brushed Poly
Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex
Weight: 170-180gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: Beautifully soft to the touch, this fabric starts as a standard poly knit and is brushed on both sides to give it that lovely feel. This fabric has beautiful drape and great recovery on stretch so it will not grow on you during the day. We have a large range of both prints and solid colours in this base.
Garment suggestions: This fabric ticks many boxes because it performs well with positive or negative ease making it a great fabric for many knit fabric garments. Use this to make tops, pants, skirts, dresses, cardigans, kimonos, leggings - the list is long!
220gsm Rib Knit
Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex
Weight: 220gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This rib knit is a bit heavier than our standard rib knits. This fabric has amazing horizontal stretch and drapes beautifully. It recovers well on stretch so there is no need to worry about your garments growing throughout the day. This base is only available in solid colours.
Garment suggestions: The additional weight of this fabric makes it perfect for all sorts of garments including tops, dresses, and cardigans.
200gsm Modal
Composition: 96% Modal, 4% Spandex
Weight: 200gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This drapey, breathable fabric is gorgeous for warm weather. Its recovery on stretch is poor, so consideration should be made on the type of garment to make; something that is too heavy will stretch the fabric out. Clear elastic in horizontal seams can provide some stability. This fabric is available in solid colours only.
Garment suggestions: This fabric is wonderful for T-shirts. It can be used with care for dresses, skirts and shorts.
250gsm Modal
Composition: 96% Modal, 4% Spandex
Weight: 250gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This fabric is just like the 200gsm Modal but a little heavier, giving it a more luxurious feel and slightly different drape. Again, its recovery on stretch is poor, so care should be taken in choosing the garment you will sew with this fabric. This fabric is available in solid colours only.
Garment suggestions: This fabric is wonderful for T-shirts. It can be used with care for dresses, skirts and shorts.
Athletic Performance Knit
Composition: 80% Polyester, 20% Spandex
Weight: 240-250gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This fabric is great for athletic wear but doesn’t have to be restricted to that! Its weight and drape mean it make lovely garments for everyday wear too. This fabric is available in solid colours and a small number of prints.
Garment suggestions: The most popular use for this fabric is workout leggings, but it can also be used for workout tops and sports bras, as well as everyday wear such as dresses, pants, skirts and tops.
Honeycomb
Composition: 92% Polyester, 8% Spandex
Weight: 260gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: Honeycomb is a very similar base to our Athletic Performance Knit, but it also features a unique honeycomb texture. Similarly to the Athletic Performance Knit, Honeycomb's fantastic stretch means it is a great choice for a wide range of garments. The fabric's texture makes it great for turning a basic piece into something a little more exciting! This base is available in a range of solid colours and some prints.
Garment suggestions: The most popular use for this fabric is workout leggings, but it can also be used for workout tops and sports bras, as well as everyday wear such as dresses, pants, skirts and tops.
Power Mesh
Composition: 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex
Weight: 90gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: Power Mesh is super stretchy, lightweight mesh fabric. Being mesh, this fabric is see-through so this must be considered when choosing how to use it. Power Mesh is only available in solid colours.
Garment suggestions: Power Mesh can be used as a lining for other garments or for cutouts or contrast pieces.
Flocked Mesh
Composition: 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex
Weight: 100gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This fabric is made of a fairly stable mesh and features a velvet flocking design. The flocking does mean that some additional care needs to be taken with this fabric - please only wash this fabric in cold water, do not put it in the dryer, and consider using a delicates bag.
Garment suggestions: Flocked Mesh can be used for cutout, contrast pieces, or overlays, or even as a lightweight cardigan.
Metallic Poly Knit
Composition: 93% Polyester, 7% Spandex
Weight: 180gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This knit has a black base with a textured metallic finish in some beautiful colours. It is lightweight meaning it has beautiful drape, and it has some nice, firm stretch horizontally.
Garment suggestions: This fabric will add a bit of glam to whatever you decide to make with it. We suggest garments such as tops, dresses, pants, skirts, or jumpsuits.
Metallic Foil Knit
Composition: 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex
Weight: 180gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This fabric is made of a simple poly knit base with an irregular metallic foil throughout. This foil gives the fabric some texture and shine. The Metallic Foil Knit does not have a lot of horizontal stretch, and has a little more vertical stretch.
Garment suggestions: This fabric will add a bit of glam to whatever you decide to make with it. We suggest garments such as tops, dresses, pants, skirts, or jumpsuits.
Casino
Composition: 88% Polyester, 12% Spandex
Weight: 245gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: Casino is a heavier knit with a satiny finish on the right side. This fabric has some give horizontally, but does have a little vertical stretch. The additional thickness gives this fabric a beautiful, luxurious drape. Casino is available in a selection of beautiful colours.
Garment suggestions: With the limited stretch this fabric, care needs to be taken when selecting a pattern. Casino makes beautiful dresses, tops, pants, skirts, and jumpsuits.
Velvet Burnout
Composition: 65% Polyester, 27% Nylon, 8% Spandex
Weight: 200gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: Velvet Burnout is largely velvet, but has a design "burned out" of the fabric. The backing is a fine mesh-type fabric, allowing you to see through the design. This fabric has great stretch and drapes beautifully.
Garment suggestions: Velvet Burnout is great for all sorts of garments, including cardigans, dresses, skirts, and tops. Just be sure to take care of the burnout design when deciding what to make.
Pleated
Composition: 100% Polyester
Weight: 150gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This Pleated base is a poly knit with pleats running horizontally across the fabric. This fabric has great horizontal stretch and some give vertically. This means that while you can of course use the fabric with the pleats running vertically, you will need to think about the stretch required for your pattern. Our Pleated range is only available in solid colours.
Garment suggestions: This fabric looks great made into skirts, pants, dresses, and tops.
Metallic Slinky
Composition: 87% Nylon, 8% Metal, 5% Spandex
Weight: 190gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: Metallic Slinky is a black nylon knit with a metallic design on the right side. The metallic design is delicate, so we recommend hand washing this fabric base. Please do not put this fabric in the dryer, and only use a cold wash if you must use the washing machine. Metallic Slinky has good horizontal stretch and some give vertically. You can sew straight through the metallic pieces. This base is available in a selection of solid colours.
Garment suggestions: This fabric is great for some dressier garments, including tops, dresses, skirts, and jumpsuits.
Lurex Jersey
Composition: 73.9% Nylon, 22.8% Lurex, 3.3% Spandex
Weight: 200gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: Lurex Jersey is a black nylon knit with Lurex threads woven throughout. This base has good horizontal and vertical stretch, as well as gorgeous drape.
Garment suggestions: Lurex Jersey would be fantastic for anything you want to add a bit of glamour to! We suggest garments such as tops, dresses, or skirts.
Swiss Dot
Composition: 77% Polyester, 23% Rayon
Weight: 200gsm
Width: 150cm
Description: This gorgeous knit fabric features a very sweet raised dot pattern on the right side for a bit of textural interest. This base is beautifully soft and comfortable, but we recommend checking your pattern requirements carefully as this base has firm stretch.
Garment suggestions: This fabric is perfect for all sorts of staple pieces including tops and dresses.
