DTY

Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 170-180gsm

Description: DTY stands for Drawn Textured Yarn - we use the abbreviation because the full name doesn't really tell you anything about the fabric. A quick way to describe this base is “poly knit”. DTY is great for summer because it is light, has great drape, and is cool to the touch. This fabric is available in prints and solid colours.

Garment suggestions: This fabric is wonderful for dresses, tops, skirts, pants, shorts, and kimono-style cardigans. 

ITY

Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 190gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: ITY stands for Interlock Twist Yarn - we use the abbreviation because the full name doesn't really tell you anything about the fabric. A quick way to describe this base is “poly knit”. ITY is very similar to DTY - is great for summer because it is light, has great drape, and is cool to the touch. This fabric is available in a range of prints.

Garment suggestions: This fabric is wonderful for dresses, tops, skirts, pants, shorts and kimono style cardigans.

Pila Spandex

Composition: 92% Polyester, 8% Spandex

Weight: 220gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Pila Spandex is similar to DTY and ITY, although it is a bit heavier. It feels soft and is slinky without being unmanageable. Pila Spandex is very soft without being brushed. This base is available in a range of prints.

Garment suggestions: Pila Spandex is great for garments such as skirts, dresses, pants, and tops.

Broderie Anglaise and Eyelet

Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 190gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Broderie Anglasie and Eyelet are DTY bases with a design featuring small embroidered holes. These bases have great horizontal stretch and a little vertical stretch. They are lightweight and drape nicely, making them perfect for summer wear. Broderie Anglaise and Eyelet are available in a few solid colours and prints.

Garment suggestions: These bases are perfect for summer tops, dresses, and beach coverups. Be aware of the holes in the design when deciding whether or not to line your garment.

 

Rib Knit

Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 180gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: This slim rib fabric is soft to the touch and lovely to wear. It has good stretch and recovery. Your garment might grow slightly during the day, but not too much. We have prints and solid colours in this fabric base.

Garment suggestions: This fabric makes a gorgeous dress or top. It would also look great as a skirt, shorts or even a cardigan for cooler weather.

Pointelle Rib

Composition: 86% Polyester, 9% Rayon, 5% Spandex

Weight: 190gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Our Pointelle Rib is a square rib somewhere between a waffle knit and a rib knit. It is a lovely light weight, making it perfect for summer wear. This base has good horizontal stretch and some vertical stretch. We have Pointelle Rib available in both prints and solid colours.

Garment suggestions: This fabric is great for tops and dresses.

Slinky Rib

Composition: 94% Polyester, 6% Spandex

Weight: 240gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Slinky Rib features an irregular rib pattern in a heavier fabric than our standard rib knit. Despite this weight, it is quite slinky and cool to wear. It has great horizontal and vertical stretch. This fabric may cling a little in a fitted garment. Slinky Rib is available in solid colours only.

Garment suggestions: Slinky Rib is perfect for everything from dresses and tops to pants and skirts.

Wide Rib Knit

Composition: 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex

Weight: 180gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Our Wide Rib Knit is lovely and soft and features a wider rib than our standard rib. This base has fantastic horizontal stretch. Wide Rib Knit is available in a range of prints.

Garment suggestions: Wide Rib Knit is fantastic for garments such as tops or loungewear pieces.

Rayon Spandex

Composition: 97% Rayon, 3% Spandex

Weight: 165-180gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: This fabric is perfect in many ways. It is light, breathable, drapey, and generally lovely to wear when it is hot outside. However, its biggest flaw is that it can grow during the day due to its poor stretch recovery. Using clear elastic in horizontal seams can help to add stability to the garment.This fabric is available in some lovely prints and a limited number of solid colours.

Garment suggestions: This fabric is wonderful for T-shirts. It can be used with care for dresses, skirts and shorts, pants.

Rayon Modal

Composition: 95% Rayon/Modal, 5% Spandex

Weight: 175gsm

Width: 180cm

Description: Similar to the 200 and 250gsm Modals, this drapey, breathable fabric is gorgeous for warm weather. It differs from the modals in its weight and its width. Its recovery on stretch is poor, so consideration should be made on the type of garment to make - anything too heavy will stretch the fabric out. Clear elastic in horizontal seams can provide some stability. This fabric is available in solid colours only.

Garment suggestions: This fabric is wonderful for T-shirts. It can be used with care for dresses, skirts and shorts.

Bamboo

Composition: 96% Bamboo, 4% Spandex

Weight: 200gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: This stretch Bamboo is a blend of bamboo and spandex. The high proportion of the natural bamboo fibre means that this base is lovely and breathable. Bamboo has great vertical and horizontal stretch. 

Garment suggestions: Bamboo is great for tops and dresses.

180gsm Cotton Spandex

Composition: 95% Cotton, 5% Spandex

Weight: 180gsm

Width: 185cm

Description: This cotton spandex is a lightweight fabric that is great for the warmer weather due to its breathability. It has good recovery on stretch so will not grow during wear. Being cotton, there is some structure to this fabric so it will not drape as well as others. We have a good range of solid colours available along with some prints.

Garment suggestions: This weight cotton spandex is wonderful for T-shirts and tank tops. It can be used for dresses that don’t need a lot of drape, joggers, or dressier pants or skirts.

Single Brushed Poly

Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 170gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Single Brushed Poly is typically brushed on the right side and slinkier on the inside. It is soft like Double Brushed Poly and has great horizontal and vertical stretch. We have a range of prints available in Single Brushed Poly.

Garment suggestions: Like Double Brushed Poly, Single Brushed Poly is a very versatile base and can be used for almost anything! We suggest garments such as tops, dresses, skirts, and pants.

Triblend

Composition: 50% Polyester, 37% Cotton, 13% Rayon

Weight: 135gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Triblend is a super lightweight fabric made of a blend of three fibres. It has great horizontal stretch. Triblend is very breathable, making it a fantastic choice for your summer sewing. This base is available in a range of solid colours and some prints.

Garment suggestions: Triblend is perfect for T-shirts, and also makes great dresses.

Jersey

Composition: 64% Rayon, 17% Polyester, 15% Cotton, 4% Spandex

Weight: 170gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Jersey is a gorgeously soft, lightweight fabric that is perfect for summer wear. The blend of fibres gives it great horizontal stretch as well as making it cool to wear. Our Jersey is available in a selection of colours.

Garment suggestions: Jersey is great for summer tops and dresses.

Viscose Slub

Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 180gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Viscose Slub is a lightweight fabric with great stretch. The slub element means that there are parts where the fabric is thicker than the rest, giving it some added visual interest. Viscose Slub does not have great recovery on stretch, meaning that if you choose to make a heavier garment with this, it may grow during the day. Clear elastic in horizontal seams can provide some stability. This fabric is available in solid colours.

Garment suggestions: Viscose Slub is perfect for T-shirts, and also makes great dresses.

Linen Look

Composition: 64% Rayon, 32% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 200gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Linen Look is lightweight and airy, making it a beautiful option for summer. It has a linen-like texture, but also has good horizontal stretch which sets it apart from traditional linen. This fabric does require ironing. Linen Look is available in a selection of solid colours.

Rayon Challis

Composition: 100% Rayon

Weight: 100-125gsm

Width: 130cm

Description: This is one of the few woven fabrics that we stock here at Lush. This one is a favourite as it is cool and light to wear in warm weather. It has wonderful drape that is suitable for a variety of garment types. This fabric is available in prints and solid colours.

Garment suggestions: This fabric is great for any woven garment that requires some drape.

100% Cotton

Composition: 100% Cotton

Weight: 120gsm

Width: 142cm

Description: This is another of the few woven fabrics that we stock here at Lush. 100% Cotton is cool and light to wear in warm weather. The drape sits a bit wider than fabrics such as Rayon Challis. 100% Cotton is available in a range of prints.

Garment suggestions: 100% Cotton is fantastic for summer tops, dresses, and skirts.

Ghost Crepe

Composition: 96% Polyester, 4% Spandex

Weight: 125gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: This drapey fabric has a crepe texture on the right side. It is lovely and light for warm weather garments. Although it contains spandex, it is a woven fabric. A big bonus of this fabric is it doesn’t require regular ironing. This fabric is available in prints and solid colours.

Garment suggestions: This fabric is great for any woven garment that requires some drape.

Rayon Crepon

Composition: 100% Rayon

Weight: 120gsm

Width: 150cm

Description: Rayon Crepon is another of our woven fabrics. This fabric is quite similar to Rayon Challis, but has a crepey texture that creates a wrinkle effect. Although this base does not have any stretch, it does have a bias. We have Rayon Crepon available in a number of prints.

Garment suggestions: Rayon Crepon is fantastic for tops, dresses, and skirts in your summer wardrobe.
